About this release
The Color Of Rain develops aja monet’s poetry into an ensemble-led work that moves through jazz, soul, hip hop and rhythm and blues. Produced by monet with Meshell Ndegeocello and Justin Brown, the album anchors its shifting sonic treatments in live instrumentation, letting the rhythm and cadence of her words interact with the musicians. Its reflections on love, resistance and collective life combine vulnerability with a restless, exploratory approach to sound. Guests include Georgia Anne Muldrow, Ganavya, Brandee Younger, Mereba, Mick Jenkins and Vic Mensa, adding contrasting voices and instrumental colours. Across the sequence, spoken delivery, singing and production detail become parts of the same musical conversation.
