About this release
Elaenia grew over five years as Sam Shepherd, working as Floating Points, developed a studio approach that reached beyond laptop-based production. Originally released in 2015, the debut draws together electronic music, jazz, classical writing and soul, with Brazilian influences also informing its sound. Nespole opens the album before the extended Silhouettes (I, II & III), while the second side moves from Argenté through Thin Air and For Marmish to Peroration Six. This tenth-anniversary edition remasters the original album and adds Precursor. The expanded sequence keeps the focus on Shepherd’s work as a composer and on the shifting balance between electronic textures and ensemble playing.
