About this release
Black Christ Of The Andes brings together Mary Lou Williams' jazz language and sacred compositions. The programme moves from St Martin De Porres and Anima Christi to It Ain't Necessarily So and My Blue Heaven, placing spiritual themes alongside familiar song forms.
Williams' piano playing links the record's contrasting moods, from the reflective Dirge Blues to A Grand Nite For Swinging. This Down At Dawn vinyl edition presents a ten-track programme that also includes The Devil, Miss D.D., A Fungus Amungus and Praise The Lord.
