About this release
Thor and Luke Hess bring their different approaches to deep techno together on Third Wave. A shared studio session in Detroit led to the collaboration, pairing Hess' soulful chord language with the stripped-back textures associated with Thor's Icelandic work. The title track places warm chords within a tight groove, while Induction brings a more focused dub-techno drive. Samruni moves to the reverse alongside a separate dub version, letting the collaboration unfold through contrasting arrangements. Across the record, rhythmic restraint and subtle changes in tone keep the music moving, with space around the drums and chords as important as their weight.
