About this release
Tracy Chapman's self-titled 1988 debut pairs her distinctive voice with direct, carefully drawn songwriting. Acoustic guitar and understated arrangements give Fast Car, Talkin' Bout A Revolution and Baby Can I Hold You space to unfold, bringing personal stories into contact with questions of work, poverty and change. Produced by David Kershenbaum, the album keeps its attention on Chapman's words and phrasing. The stark a cappella Behind The Wall contrasts with the fuller backing elsewhere, while the closing For You returns to an intimate scale. This WEA vinyl LP presents the original eleven songs.
