About this release
Tunis Hotel Stereo gathers rock, funk, disco and reggae recorded in Tunisia between 1977 and 1984, compiled by Cheb Mimo for Shakshouka Records. The selection follows musicians who developed their sound on hotel stages, blending local instruments and traditions with styles arriving from abroad. Years of record hunting, conversations and archive research connect the performances to the people and places behind them. Oud, dance rhythms and band arrangements reveal a scene shaped by both tourism and local musical invention. From the first side’s varied pop and funk settings to the wider range of the reverse, the compilation presents a connected chapter of Tunisian recording history.
