About this release
Vick Lavender’s The Experimental EP brings together richly arranged house with musician Justin Dillard and vocalist Brian ‘Smokey’ Williams. Experimental leads with a substantial bassline, Clavinet figures, organ chords, percussion and spacey synthesizers, leaving room for Williams’ vocal performance. Love Times takes the reverse into a smoother, more intricate setting, with Will Jackson also contributing on that side. It appears in both vocal and instrumental versions, allowing the layered arrangement to come forward in different ways. Mister Bear presents the three-track selection on a twelve-inch, connecting Lavender’s deep house rhythms with the detail of a collaborative studio performance.
