About this release
Harry Malone and Tony Poe recorded High Rise's music in Chicago around 1985, bringing soul vocals, boogie rhythms and disco arrangements together. Athens Of The North expands the programme with two recordings by Malone's earlier group The Elusions, Very Special Girl and Stolen Love. The album moves from the floating feel of I Know Yo' Game into the extended title track, with the two Elusions selections connecting it to an earlier chapter of independent Chicago soul. Let Me See Where You're Coming From and Shake Your Thang complete the seven-track collection.
