About this release
Lunch is Payfone's debut album, bringing Phil Passera and Jimmy Day's sample-free production to six songs on their own OTIS imprint. Recorded between studios in Barcelona and Brighton, the set combines drum machines and JUNO-60 synth textures with live instruments and guest vocalists. Willis Earl Beal, also known as Nobody, leads opener 'Movin' On', while April Pittman and Zara Kian appear on 'Paperman'. Ludmilla Rodriguez fronts 'Joan Of Arc', with further contributions from Collette Tibbetts, Barbara Alcindor and Leon Lace. From mid-tempo disco and dub-influenced grooves to the pedal-steel detail of 'Pony Bar', the LP gives their collaborative sound an extended setting.
