About this release
Smoove works from original multitrack recordings for the fourteenth volume of Multitrack Reworks, reshaping four songs through new arrangements and a focus on their rhythm sections. Gladys Knight’s Taste The Bitter Love retains its vocal, strings and Fender Rhodes, while Dexter Wansel’s Theme From The Planets is lifted in tempo without changing its original pitch. Talk Talk’s It’s My Life takes a more pared-back, Balearic approach that leaves space around the vocal. Donald Byrd’s Lansana’s Priestess closes the record with a stripped jazz-funk reconstruction. Together, the reworks bring soul, synth-pop and jazz-funk material into Smoove’s editing approach.
