About this release
Comb Versions reinterprets Orange Juice’s Rip It Up through street soul, drum-machine rhythm and touches of acid. Recorded in Norwich for I Travel To You’s tenth release, Rip presents two new arrangements of the 1983 song. The Juicy Mix combines female vocals with popping DX bass, crisp 808 drums and a saxophone solo, bringing the melodic hook into a different rhythmic setting. After Hours Dub reduces the instrumentation and turns towards breaks, M1 bass and a repeated male vocal phrase. The two versions keep a recognisable connection to the source while changing its weight and atmosphere.
