About this release
Nickodemus and Gabriele Poso turn an improvised Puerto Rico performance into La Conga Vieja, combining Afro-Latin percussion, salsa piano and horns with a driving four-to-the-floor rhythm. The song grew from a show played on a borrowed old conga, with Puerto Rican poet Flaco Navaja and Cuban trumpeter Carlos Sarduy joining the recording. Their contributions connect the track's story of resilience, migration and memory to its rhythmic core. The Wonderwheel twelve-inch brings together the full version, Santa Conga Vieja, a radio edit and an instrumental, keeping the percussion and brass prominent across the different arrangements.
