About this release
Giant Steps is a defining John Coltrane recording, pairing the saxophonist's formidable improvising with compositions that became part of the modern jazz repertoire. The title track and Countdown move with concentrated urgency, while Cousin Mary and Syeeda's Song Flute bring memorable themes and a strong rhythmic foundation.
Naima offers a moment of lyrical calm before the closing drive of Mr. P.C. Across seven performances, the album makes a compelling case for Coltrane's range as both player and composer. This Atlantic vinyl LP reissue presents the original album programme.
