About this release
Chibuku’s Maxambe revisits the Xitsonga duo’s 1992 album, created with producer, singer and guitarist Dr Joe Shirimani. Recorded during a period of political and musical transition in South Africa, the six songs connect bubblegum disco rhythms with everyday social concerns. Lekomfere addresses migration, Xikweleti deals with debt, and Mhamazala turns to family relationships. Originally released through Tusk/Diamond Music, the album places those themes within bright, dance-oriented arrangements rooted in the region’s disco and bubblegum sound. This Modulor reissue presents the complete six-track sequence, with the title song opening the record.
