Habibi Funk gathers Hamid El Shaeri's early recordings for SLAM! across the years 1983 to 1988. This period follows his departure from Libya and his journey towards a career in Egypt, with London providing both a recording base for his first album and access to new instruments.

Synthesizers sit at the centre of these songs, capturing a sound that predates his later fame in Al Jeel. Ayonha, previously featured on Habibi Funk's first compilation, appears alongside ten further selections. The collection offers a focused view of El Shaeri's early studio work and the electronic pop language he was developing.
