About this release
Juan Almeida’s Fantasia places Latin jazz-funk and Afro-Cuban percussion within a sweeping instrumental arrangement. Produced, orchestrated and conducted by Rafael Somavilla, the album moves between electronic textures, psychedelic passages and a pop-classical sense of scale. Recurring phrases give the music a cinematic character, while changes in rhythm open into funk and percussion-led sections. Short introductory and linking pieces frame longer compositions such as ‘Este Camino Largo’, ‘Decide Tu’ and ‘Te Canta Mi Tambor’. Mr Bongo presents this nine-track LP as part of its Cuban Classics series, with an obi strip accompanying the vinyl edition.
