About this release
The Outfit reworks Parliament’s ‘Dr. Funkenstein’ through the rhythms of Barbadian spouge on ‘Dr. Spougenstien’. Originally issued in 1978 by West Indies Records Limited, the single brings George Clinton’s funk vocabulary into the band’s Caribbean setting. The reverse turns to another familiar melody with ‘Theme From Peter Gunn’, recast as a cosmic disco instrumental. Lava On Wax returns the two recordings to seven-inch vinyl for its first release. The reissue was developed by DJ and collector Matteo Fava through his work with the former WIRL label, with Guts collaborating on the project.
