About this release
Cardiff duo papaya noon bring jazz-infused R&B, classic soul, hip hop and electronica together on their debut EP, through the moods. Vocalist Annie Mirza and multi-instrumentalist Greg Marriott write, perform and produce the music themselves, layering harmonies over warm instrumentation. The six songs move between the opening blush, the quicker on your side and the slower blindside and morning light, before closing with crybaby. Personal songwriting addresses neurodivergence, trauma and loss with a gentle approach, while the arrangements connect 1990s soul influences with contemporary R&B. Released on First Word Records, the EP introduces the duo’s own studio sound.
