About this release
Backatcha brings two versions of Roy Ayers' Can't You See Me together on this Carib Covers EP, with Ebony Steel Band and Lennox 'Boogsie' Sharpe each giving the song a distinct steel-pan setting. Poinsettia Pop Band's Funky Junkanoo adds a previously unreleased, break-led recording recovered and mixed by Sean P from the 1980 Portia session tapes. G.I.'s Brass International completes the programme with Back Together, their take on Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway's Back Together Again. The selection places familiar soul and jazz-funk material alongside the Poinsettia recording, linking the bands through rhythm, arrangement and instrumental character.
