About this release
Gerardo Frisina approaches Afro-funk and Brazilian rhythm through electronic production on Duala / Lindeza. Duala takes inspiration from Douala and the music of Manu Dibango, building its arrangement around a pulsing bassline, flowing guitar and psychedelic synthesizer detail. Lindeza changes the perspective towards Brazil, pairing percussion-led electronics with a Latin feel and a tempo around 110 BPM. The contrast gives the record two distinct moods while keeping rhythm central to both. Released on Schema, the pairing connects Frisina's interest in jazz and club music with funk arrangements shaped by bass, percussion and layers of electronic sound.
