About this release
Pianist, singer and composer Joy Ellis expands her jazz quartet with Engines Orchestra on One Hundred Years, her first major orchestral project. Supported by Arts Council England, the seven-track album combines intimate songs with arrangements for strings and wind.
Phil Meadows conducts Engines Orchestra alongside Ellis, drummer Adam Osmianski, guitarist Mike De Souza and bassist Jonny Wickham. From My Usual Walk and Tethered to The Back Room At Ronnie’s, the record moves between the closeness of a small jazz group and the broader colour of an orchestra.
