About this release
Phantasy revisits Xclusiv’s Fools Are Friendly, remastered from the original tapes in collaboration with sisters Karen and Maxine Berlinski. First self-released in 1982 on their family’s Le Maitre Music label, the record connects disco and soul songwriting with early electronic pop. The Extended Mix gives the sisters’ paired vocals room to unfold around synthesizer patterns and rhythmic movement. On the reverse, the Instrumental Mix brings those electronic details forward, replacing the main vocal hook with a synth melody. Together, the two versions preserve the recording’s mixture of independent pop production and dancefloor-minded arrangement.
