About this release
Romare's fifth album directs Archie Fairhurst's sample craft towards technology, the environment, social justice and power. Downtempo passages, broken beats and house grooves frame a brooding collection in which older recordings speak to present-day concerns. “Machines” sets a German recital of Goethe's “Blessed Longing” against a steady pulse, while “Computer Love” draws on old computer documentaries within a trip-hop arrangement. “Take Us” turns to boom-bap rhythms, and “Deeds, Not Words” looks to the suffragettes as a model of activism. Released on All You See, the double LP includes the vinyl-only “Light Of Imagination”, completing its thirteen-track sequence.
