Alien D - Smoker’s Choice

Alien D takes a slower, more spacious route on Smoker’s Choice, his first album for Theory Therapy. New York producer Daniel Creahan lets soft electronic textures and dub rhythms sit alongside acoustic instruments, with bass drifting beneath arrangements that gradually change shape. Following For the Early Hours of a World in Bloom, these eight tracks give the melodies and small details room to linger.

The guests bring plenty of character: Tanner’s zither colours “Equinox Cherry” and bowed banjo threads through “Intricate Link”, while Ellen adds vocals to “Cool Heaven” and Don plays saxophone on “Shifted Apsis”. Creahan folds those performances into the electronics, blurring their edges without losing their warmth. An ambient dub LP with a gentle sense of movement, suited to a full listen from start to finish.
