Arthur Hnatek - Undertow

Swiss drummer and electronic artist Arthur Hnatek joins Hessle Audio with Undertow. Its four tracks begin with improvised drum performances recorded in Brooklyn, Berlin and Switzerland, then cut and transformed until the percussion starts to suggest melody and harmony.

Resonators, vocoders, tuned delays and spectral processing draw new textures out of the recordings, while the movement of the original performances remains audible. Undertow, Etch, Sunder and Loom bring Hnatek's background in improvisation into an exploratory electronic setting.
