About this release
Marca Passo continues Azymuth’s blend of Brazilian rhythms, jazz-funk and samba soul, fifty years after the group’s 1975 debut. Recorded in Rio de Janeiro and produced by Daniel Maunick, it brings bassist Alex Malheiros together with keyboardist Kiko Continentino and drummer Renato Massa. Samba Pro Mamão pays tribute to founding drummer Ivan Conti, while the music carries forward the group’s shared studio language. The eight-track vinyl sequence opens with Belenzinho and Fantasy ’82, then moves through Marca Tempo and Andaraí before the reverse side’s Arabutã, Samba Pro Mamão, O Mergulhador and Last Summer In Rio.
