About this release
Melbourne vocalist, musician and songwriter Ella Thompson joins Mr Bongo with Promise To Keep / Change Of Heart, a single bridging classic and contemporary soul. Promise To Keep is an upbeat groover with the lift of mid-to-late-sixties vocal groups, while Change Of Heart moves into sweet-soul ballad territory, building through falsetto vocals, horns and a brooding cinematic feel. The sessions feature members of Surprise Chef and Karate Boogaloo, with Liam McGorry of Temporary Blessings joining Thompson as co-writer and co-producer. Henry Jenkins also produces and records, while Wayne Gordon handles the mix.
