About this release
Gateway Jones draws on the machine-driven sound of 1980s boogie for this Focus 21 release, combining disco rhythms with playful synths and tightly shaped grooves. Transmission opens with a bright, energetic feel before Contact Zone moves into deeper territory, led by wriggling bass and a more sensuous mood. On the second side, Non-Physical Boogie puts loose claps and funk figures around a taut stepping rhythm. Midnight Call follows with a warm, uplifting close, keeping the focus on melodic movement and the interplay between bass, percussion and electronics. The production gives the EP a polished finish while retaining its period-inspired character.
