About this release
Action Reaction finds bassist, composer and producer Horatio Luna exploring the relationship between jazz and house music through warm, funk-led arrangements. Recorded at Nick Herrera’s and Drew Parsons’ Melbourne studios between 2022 and 2025, the album combines composed passages with the openness of improvisation. Bright synths and prominent horns bring a lighter palette than Yes Doctor, while fragments of voicemail messages connect the music to the period in which it was made. Several pieces return to earlier material from a fresh angle. Keyboards, guitar, tenor saxophone, drums and percussion surround Luna’s bass playing, balancing danceable rhythms with a fluid ensemble feel.
