About this release
Hortense Ellis’ ‘Hell & Sorrow’ returns on Death Is Not The End’s 333 imprint, paired with Big Youth’s ‘Tribulation’. Jimmy Radway originally produced and released Ellis’ vocal cut through his Fe Me Time label in the mid-1970s. Her soulful delivery sits against a roots reggae backing, while Big Youth takes the same rhythm in another direction with his DJ counteraction on the reverse. The seven-inch presents the two related recordings together, offering a contrast between Ellis’ melodic vocal and Big Youth’s spoken rhythmic approach.
