About this release
Jeff Hess returns to DeepLabs with Places of Peace, a four-track 12-inch rooted in the deep and dubbed-out side of Detroit techno. The release pairs filtered synthesis with functional drum machine programming for listeners, dancers and DJs.
Across ‘Makwa’, ‘largo’, ‘Manitou’ and ‘Kitch-iti-kipi’, dub effects create a moving, hypnotic atmosphere. Hess draws inspiration from moments of harmony between heaven and earth, bringing that reflective outlook to straightforward electronic rhythm.
