About this release
Jumani's We Can Work It Out connects nineties East Coast independent soul with raw, jeep-beat production. First released in 1994 by New Jersey's Threshold Records, it sets a melancholic vocal against a rhythm that sits comfortably between R&B and the street soul sound. This Backatcha issue is cut from the original studio DAT and pairs the vocal recording with its instrumental. The two versions offer different views of the same arrangement, with the reverse bringing the beat and accompaniment forward. It is the original single programme on twelve-inch vinyl, distinct from the separate seven-inch pairing with Give Me Your Love.
