About this release
Kiyoshi Sugimoto composed and arranged every track on L.A. Master, the 1978 album that developed his crossover approach after years of jazz and session work. His guitar is joined by musicians including saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu, keyboardists Haruo Togashi and Jun Fukamachi, bassist Akira Okazawa, drummer Yuichi Tokashiki and guitarist Tsunehide Matsuki. Across six compositions, the record connects Sugimoto’s jazz background with the studio sound of late-1970s fusion. Universal Music Japan’s first reissue is pressed on clear sky-blue vinyl as part of its Light Mellow presents J-FUSION Renaissance series, with remastering and cutting by Katsutoshi Kitamura at Mixer’s Lab.
