About this release
The Eight Gates is the debut album from London drummer, composer and bandleader LOX, shaped around perseverance, identity and the pursuit of greatness. Written over six years, the music draws on jazz alongside the narrative and melodic influence of anime and video-game scores. Energetic ensemble passages sit beside more sensitive, orchestral writing, giving the sequence a sense of movement through different emotional states. Guest contributions from Summer Pearl, Laurie Milton, Akil Henry, Amal Shaham and Insxght add further voices to the band’s sound. The album brings LOX’s experience as a collaborator into a project built around his own compositions and musical story.
