About this release
Salute to the Sun introduces a new Manchester-based ensemble around Matthew Halsall’s trumpet, bringing flute, saxophone, harp, piano, bass, drums and percussion into a spacious collective sound. The album grew from the band’s weekly sessions and draws inspiration from nature, with kalimba, bells and shakers adding detail to its spiritual jazz grooves. Harmony With Nature and Canopy & Stars sit alongside longer pieces such as Joyful Spirits Of The Universe and the title track, giving the musicians room to develop their ideas. Daniel Halsall co-produced the recording, which was mixed by George Atkins and mastered by Peter Beckmann; Barry Grint cut the double vinyl at half speed.
