About this release
Mohinder Kaur Bhamra’s Punjabi Disco joins Punjabi folk melodies with synthesizer bass and electronic drums. Produced by her son Kuljit Bhamra, the 1982 recordings were made at Rick Kenton’s London studio using a Roland SH-1000 and CR-8000 drum machine. Naya Beat’s edition draws on rediscovered multitrack masters, adding a previously unreleased recording, remixes and a cover by Turbotito & Ragz featuring Piya Malik. Peaking Lights, Danger Boys, Psychemagik, Dexter+Franz, Mystic Jungle and Baalti offer their own approaches to the material. The gatefold double LP includes liner notes by Ammar Kalia and was cut by Frank Merritt at The Carvery.
