About this release
Moodymann’s Black Mahogani brings Kenny Dixon Jr.’s sample-based approach together with the voices and playing of Detroit collaborators including Amp Fiddler, Roberta Sweed and Norma Jean Bell. Originally released in 2004, the album connects deep house with soul and jazz, moving between shorter passages and extended grooves. Holiday and Roberta Jean Machine lead into I Need You So Much and Runaway, with I’m Doing Fine and Shades Of Jae central to its sequence. Mahogani 9000 and Black Mahogani form the closing stretch. This Peacefrog edition presents the ten-track vinyl programme on three smokey-coloured records with an obi strip.
