About this release
Stankonia brings André 3000 and Big Boi’s contrasting voices into a wide-ranging mix of Southern rap, funk and soul. Released in 2000, OutKast’s fourth album moves between the melodic ease of So Fresh, So Clean and Ms. Jackson and the rapid rhythmic drive of B.O.B. Production by the duo and their collaborators gives room to dense electronic textures, live-sounding grooves and short interludes. Guests including Killer Mike, Erykah Badu and B-Real add further voices to the sequence. Humble Mumble, Red Velvet and the closing Stankonia (Stanklove) extend an album that keeps changing direction while retaining the pair’s distinct musical identity.
