Ron Carroll - Category 1 Music Sampler Vol 4

Soulful house specialists Category 1 have released a lot of great music since launching in 2023, but only a small fraction of it has ever made it to wax. The label's vinyl platform is its popular 'sampler' series, of which this 12" is volume four.

The late, great Ron Carroll plays a starring role, with Eric Kupper's warming, colourful and Directors Cut style take on Jaysoul collaboration 'What I Want' being followed by Marc Cotterell's bumpin', piano-powered "trad" US garage take on 'Underground'. 

Elsewhere, Stacy Kidd provides a glossy, melodious and soulful rework of DJ Christian B, Rudi'kastic and Lee Wilson's 'Call Me', while Chicago house pioneer Joe Smooth joins the dots between deep house and Afro-house on his excellent rework of 'Soul Deep' by Sweet Georgie, Ed Ramsey and Peter Mac.
