About this release
High on the Western Hill is the long-shelved album recorded by Silver Birch, the group that grew out of Acoustic Ladyland in 2011. Pete Wareham, Chris Sharkey, Ruth Goller and Seb Rochford recorded these eight pieces with producer Sam Hobbs at Rebel Elements studio in Wharfedale.
Released fifteen years later by Kit Records, the music joins heavy grooves and forceful saxophone lines with extended improvisation and restless rhythmic changes. Its mix of post-punk energy, experimental rock and jazz captures the quartet at a turning point, before Wareham went on to form Melt Yourself Down.
