About this release
Sounds Of Blackness’ The Pressure takes on a different character in Frankie Knuckles’ Lullaby Mix. This long-circulated version of The Pressure Pt. II removes the percussion, giving Ann Nesby’s full vocal performance room to unfold alongside Terry Burrus’ piano and Satoshi Tomiie’s synths.
The song first appeared on the group’s 1991 album The Evolution Of Gospel, but this arrangement draws its power from the space around the voice. Previously cut verses return, with piano, bass and suspended chords carrying the music in place of the drums. Presented on Cyrené in a screenprinted jacket, this 12-inch captures the gospel heart of a house classic.
