The Fantastic Aleems - Movin' To The Beat

During the boogie and early electro era, Taharqa and Tunde-Ra Aleem delivered a string of killer club cuts as The Fantastic Aleems - and later Aleem - most of which featured star vocalist and disco-era legend Leroy Burgess. They began, though, with a series of singles made without Burgess, of which 1981's 'Movin' To The Beat' is by far and away the most sought after.

This Record Store Day 2026 reissue marks the first fresh vinyl pressing since and boasts both the vocal (A) and instrumental (B) mixes, the former featuring singer Corky Hodges. A fine slab of synth-splattered disco-funk headiness, it's a fine example of the turn-of-the-80s NYC disco sound, where colourful P-funk electronics sat side by side with classic disco style grooves, breakdancer-friendly percussion sections and heady horn arrangements.
