About this release
Charles Maurice selects ten French-language recordings made between 1975 and 1984 for this Favorite Recordings compilation. French Disco Boogie Sounds connects independent productions by Over Drive, Marché Noir, Didier Makaga and France Lise with recordings released through larger labels, tracing the links between disco, funk and boogie across the period. The selection also includes Beckie Bell, Kelly, Contessa, Toulouse, Le Club and Bernard Guyvan. Several tracks appear in Charles Maurice versions, extending the compilation’s dancefloor focus. Spread across four sides, the programme brings together artists working in France, the Caribbean, Canada and the United States.
