About this release
Dub Essentials Part 1 returns to the first 24hr Experience EP by Grant Nelson and Simon Firmin, originally released in 1994. Feelings Mutual and Deeper (5am Mix) share the first side, moving from soulful samples into a more clipped, bouncing rhythm. Scatter opens the reverse with layered percussion and organ chords, followed by the deeper bass of Mantra and the looping groove of Gone Loopy. The five tracks connect early UK garage with US house influences, using swung drums, vocal fragments and bass-led arrangements. This Digital Tape Recordings reissue presents the complete EP on one twelve-inch.
