About this release
Asha Puthli's self-titled debut combines jazz, soul, blues and funk in a nine-song set produced in the UK by Del Newman. First released on CBS in 1973, it opens with her interpretation of J.J. Cale's Right Down Here, reshaping the song around a deeper funk rhythm and her distinctive vocal phrasing. Neither One Of Us Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye, I Dig Love and Let Me In Your Life offer further settings for her voice, before Truth closes the album. Mr Bongo's Record Store Day 2020 reissue presents the complete programme on sky-blue vinyl.
