About this release
Meji Meji / Sonayon brings Bosq and Kaleta together across two songs with instrumental versions of each. Recorded between Medellín, New York and Cotonou, the single combines Kaleta's vocals with disco-funk arrangements, horns and percussion. Meji Meji develops a message of unity in Yoruba over a firm rhythmic backing, while Sonayon takes a more measured pace with lyrics about overcoming difficulties and looking ahead. The instrumentals give space to the arrangements without the lead vocal. Bacalao's four-track 12-inch pairs each song with its instrumental on the same side, with artwork by Brazilian artist Amanda Lobos.
