About this release
Michael Gray and Dr Packer work together on two recordings from the West End catalogue, pairing Brenda Taylor with the NYC Peech Boys on one 12-inch. Their treatment of You Can't Have Your Cake And Eat It Too keeps Taylor's vocal prominent, with synthesizers and piano carrying the groove around it. Don't Make Me Wait takes a more angular route, using acid-like electronic figures and reverb to give the reverse a different character. The record presents one complete rework per side, bringing the two producers' approaches together while preserving the contrast between the original performances.
