About this release
Closer to It! brings Brian Auger’s Hammond organ and Fender Rhodes into a meeting of jazz, funk, R&B and soul. Recorded with Oblivion Express, the 1973 album includes ‘Whenever You’re Ready’, co-written with bassist Barry Dean, and ‘Happiness Is Just Around the Bend’, later recorded by The Main Ingredient. Auger also interprets ‘Compared to What’ and Marvin Gaye’s ‘Inner City Blues’, setting those songs alongside the group’s own material. The six-track programme closes with ‘Voices of Other Times’. This Soul Bank Music edition presents the album as a remastered vinyl LP.
