About this release
Sufferer Sounds explores Dennis Bovell’s productions from the period around his involvement with the Jah Sufferer Sound System, concentrating on recordings from 1976–1980. The fifteen-track selection brings together roots reggae, dub and lovers rock under the various names and collaborations associated with his studio work. Matumbi, African Stone, Pebbles and Angelique appear alongside Bovell’s own aliases, with Game Of Dubs revisiting the world of Silly Games. Restored and remastered at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin, the compilation was sequenced by Disciples. The double LP includes printed inner sleeves and photography by Syd Shelton, with notes drawing on Bovell’s recollections of the sessions and sound-system years.
