About this release
Eddie Suzuki and his group New Hawaii recorded High Tide in 1973, combining psychedelic touches, pop songwriting and songs celebrating the islands’ places and atmosphere. Suzuki’s vocals, Hammond organ and ARP synthesizer sit alongside guitar from Laurence Harada, bass from John Schulmeister, drums from Gary Fittro and vocals from Nani Kuaiwa. The album moves through titles including ‘Maunalani Hale’, ‘Legend Of Lehua’ and ‘Magic Mile Of Waikiki’, with ‘Fly To Waikiki’ and ‘City Of Refuge’ among its closing pieces. Aloha Got Soul’s AGS-053 edition brings this view of Hawaii back to vinyl, preserving the blend of local identity and studio experimentation at the centre of Suzuki’s music.
